When is the right time to trim rose bushes back? Also to move one, I have a climbing one taking over one of my bushes

My mother always cut her roses back after the first frost (not the killing frost). But we live in Iowa, so we cut them way back and wrapped the bushes in heavy paper like feed sacks, and wired the paper on to ready them for winter. We have much harder winters here but I believe I would use the same rule regardless of where I live.

  @Therese C should i move one of the bushes around the same time? I live in Oklahoma and our frost is anywhere from the middle of oct to middle of nov. Thanks for helping me

  @Jackie the best time to move a rose bush is in the very early spring when the leaves are just barely showing as very small buds. Any earlier or later will be likely to shock the plant. When you do move it, be sure to pour 3-4 tablespoons of Epsom Salts into the hole followed with about 3 cups of water. This is like a steroid shot to the plant. Good luck dear!....ps....something I used to do with my roses is this; after cutting the plant back, I melted a bit of wax (unscented candle or paraffin) and put it on the larger stubs to seal them and help them ready for the long winter. In the spring the wax will crumble off as the plant begins to grow again.
