Who here remembers these types of coaster sets? Always in dark wood, they resemble little pieces of heavy, stodgy furniture- but they're "drawers" are actually cork coasters? Well, I found one that was even more special while I was thrifting one day...
And on the same shelf at the same store? A similarly dark wood napkin holder...which made me think, what would happen if I combined them into one piece? They weren't made to go together...but I had a feeling it would work out just fine.
So that's what I did! ( Get the full how-to here! )

And in the spirit of the final weeks of summer, I gave my newly-combined piece a splashy paint job. Turquoise is SO hot right now and this color is to die for.
And now I have a one-stop snack station! It is a fun, kid-friendly project that can be left on the back deck. What a great way to talk about your child's day after he/she gets out of school? Besides, after school snacks are the best part of the school day, right?
