Breezeway Space

Hi, I have a Cape Cod style house that has an enclosed breezeway from the garage to the house itself. In the breezeway we have windows and a very thin "carpet" on top of a concrete floor. My wife and I are thinking of making it into a mudroom with laminate tile, but aren't sure if we need to put anything down underneath the tile to absorb moisture. Looking forward to hearing your responses, thanks!

I would paint or stain the concrete. There are lots of tutorials and photos online if you do a search. This technique looks awesome and probably same $$ and time to do as tile.
  • Short of sealing the floor with a clear sealer thats about all you can do. Normally a vapor barrier of polyethelene 6 mil thick is put down. Do this test cut a 24"x24" of poly duck tape all sides to the floor for 48 hours and see if there is any moisture/condensation coming up thru the concrete.
