any ideas for cleaning rust off your BBQ grate?

Walmart, CLR is great! Calcium, Lime Rust remover.

Use a metal brush and then after you get it off. Put oil on it and light the grill for about a hour to help coat it... Treat it like you do a frying pan...( Cast iron )

I have CLR and a metal brush so I'll take care of that rust. I never thought of the grate like an iron skillet, Thanks
