Ceiling fan

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Aug 18, 2013First off Marlene, you need to turn off the power to the fan at the breaker box to prevent any sparks or worse yet a shock. The switch is inside the housing. Depending upon the type of fan it is that you have will determine how to remove the pull chain switch to replace it. You may need to take the entire fan down off its mount to make the repair. If this is something you cannot do, you may want to consider a pro to do this project for you. But before you even do that, determine what the fan is worth. There are a lot of fans and light assembly's that are very low cost and work and look quite well. It may be more prudent to purchase a new fixture then to just bother to replace the switch itself. All of this is determined by how handy you are and your willingness to have at it on your own.Helpful Reply

Sean Gallagher on Aug 19, 2013not worth it if it is a 2 stage switch the wiring matching can sometimes be ridiculous and never work ,waste your time and cost you money....If it is an in expensive fan just replace it with a new one ...and set the fan speed to high use a wall controller or a remote ..These cheap Chinese pieces of crap are total garbage ...First fault lies with you you most likely bought low quality ,home depot ,or Lowe's ...The only good fans anymore are Casablanca .. and Emerson ... I also like the Japanese made Minka aire ... The pull chains installed in these fans may be good for only 500 pullsHelpful Reply

HomeSpot HQ on Aug 19, 2013It is possible to add a screw-in pull chain if there is enough room. You could also convert it to a wall switch with a wireless setup.Helpful Reply
