Doesn't the smell off the paint seep into container and make sugar, flour ect smell?

Does the smell of the milk, juice or milk substitute originally in the carton linger. Rice, sugar, salt, flour all have odour absorbing abilities so I was hoping for feedback before I try this. Having a bit more baking ingredients here than usual it would be great to organize them this way. Thank for the idea.
