DIY RAPUNZEL TOWER
Both my boys have always enjoyed telling me their favourite fairytale stories – often with their own imaginative little unique twists.
One of their favourites is the classic tale of Rapunzel – which may have something to do with how many times they’ve watched the movie “Tangled”! Story sequencing is one of many skills that contributes to comprehension and encourages the use of descriptive words, a broader vocabulary and language development.
We thought it would be fun to craft a DIY Rapunzel Tower, in honour of the boys’ storytelling. We created our tower for Rapunzel from a recycled kitchen foil inner tube. These are longer and sturdier than toilet roll tubes – making it robust for the tower.
One of our favourite parts of this crafting activity is that Rapunzel’s braid can be moved up and down to simulate the “let down your hair”… which we found great fun. It added an imaginary play element to this activity- along with discussions around length, weight and different strengths.
