Lofted "Cottage" Bed...for Our Little Girl's "DREAM" Room...

We have VERY small bedrooms in our home. We decided to loft our daughters bed to create more "play" space and some fun cottage charm...
We started by attaching a 4X4 post to the wall.
Then my husband built a box to fit her twin sized mattress using 4 1X8 boards and 2X4's running across to support the mattress. We covered the under side of the box with painted pine beadboard to create a "ceiling".
The box for the mattress was fastened to the studs in the wall.
The we attached another 4X4 post for support.
The ladder was made from 2X3 boards and attached to the bed box.
Fold down railing was made from spindles cut in half...before...
...after.We attached the railing to the side using hinges to make sheet changing easier.
Later, we drilled a hole through the box and the railing to add a XL bolt and wing nut to lock the railing in a safe position.
We added painted metal handles...the railing is not used for support when climbing up and down the ladder.
A little peek inside her "cottage". A fun mix of old and new play furniture.
A perfect little place to pretend and play.
We used a stacked drawer shelf, a mini dresser and a vintage suit case for toys and doll clothes storage.
These hanging planter baskets work great for her collection of stuffed "friends". They are close for "cuddling" but up off the bed for easier bed making.
This old painted toy chest hides away dress up clothes and doubles as a window seat.

Oh I’m a grandma now! But I would have loved this for my baby girl, now 28. Lol! My grand-baby now 6 would love it. Absolutely adorable! Wonderful job. Love the railing and the mix and match but color scheme to look alike.
