Late Summer Wreath

I am so looking forward to fall, but the temperatures in Charleston remain summer like. With the days still sweltering, putting up a fall wreath just doesn’t seem right, but I was ready for a change. Making a transitional wreath was the way to go. This late summer wreath combines coastal elements with some fallish flowers.

I started with a grapevine wreath that I’ve used before. I removed all of the embellishments and started from scratch.

Instead of attaching the metallic R to the wreath, I tied it onto the hanger. This way, I can easily reuse it on other wreaths.

I purchased several long stemmed floral pieces from Joann’s recently. Rather than cutting the stems off so that they would fit this wreath, I bent them around the back of the wreath. I often disassemble wreaths and use items for other projects, so this way, I’ll still have long stemmed pieces.

I like the look of these floral pieces because they have a hint of fall to them. In keeping with my coastal decor, I wanted to include some coastal elements to the wreath, too. I started by adding a cluster of shells and adding some netting over them. The shells are glued in place and I used clear fishing line to secure the netting.

These driftwood pieces came in a package of vase filler. I hot glued a few of them to the wreath.

The final addition to the wreath was a starfish. I love the color. It goes well with the late summer look I think. I glued it to the wreath, but to make sure it was secure, I also tied a bit of fishing line around it.

I’m happy with how it turned out and I’m enjoying having it hang on our front door. While I’m still hoping for cooler weather soon and I can’t wait to get started on fall decor, this Late Summer Wreath has just the right look until it’s time to bring out the pumpkins!

Love it! Looks very professional and expensive. The navy and cream look so good together. Adding the smaller items on the right side and the star fish to it balanced the whole wreath . A perfect late summer wreath. Speaking of expenses, if you had to purchase all pieces and parts how much do you think it cost?

  Thanks! I'd say around $20. That's if using coupons or shopping during sales at craft stores for the wreath and the florals.
