When I use to own a cleaning company, we used oven cleaner. Be sure to turn on exhaust fan and open window because most oven cleaners have horrible fumes. Spray it on thick, wait 10-30 min for it to work but don't let it totally dry and wash it off with hot water. We always rinsed with lightly soapy water and then with clear water so as not to leave residue from cleaner. It worked well on some really dirty grout.

I use windex and a magic eraser sponge. I let the windex sit for 10-15 minutes. Then I use the magic eraser sponge to clean it. The windex does not Ieave a residue on the floor. If you do this once or twice. Maintaining your floor will come easier. Also. No need to but the exaoensuce Maghreb eraser sponger. Store brands work just as well. If your grout is really dirty. You nay need to do several times.

If this colored grout, use a combination of one quart warm white vinegar and half a cup of blue Dawn dish detergent . Mix and put in a spray bottle. Squirt the solution on the grout and then scrub with a narrow stiff plastic brush. Use wet towel to wipe up residue. Make sure to mop well to remove all of the solution. Any soap left on the floor will only cause dirt to stick. When grout is clean and dry use a sealer to keep it from staining again.

use Clorox toilet bowl cleaner put on the grout and scrub it letter sit on for 10 min and wipe it off or you can use the steam cleaner if you have one !! l
  • Janey Janey on Aug 28, 2016
Use the spray nozzle attachment of a steam mop, on hottest setting you need to get results. You will probably need to mop up as you go along with a towel. If the grout is dirty, this will lift the dirt. I cleaned my entire kitchen floor this way. Grout should be in good condition.

Try undiluted vinegar, let stand 10 minutes, and scrub clean. Bleach will not usually work.

I say give up! There were stains all over mine. When I moved in I tried all these ideas. You can paint the grout (a bit tedious but worth it). Home Depot sells Grout Renew and it comes in several colors. BEST IDEA EVER!!!!

If the grout wasn't sealed then it absorbed whatever was placed on it. I'm guessing this is floor grout. I used Oxi-Clean on my kitchen back splash grout and it came out clean. It may be worth a try but tile grout should always be sealed to ensure it doesn't absorb dirt, especially floor grout.

Try peroxide, pour on, let sit a bit, use an old toothbrush and brush the grout. It will clean and whiten the grout.

I sprinkle baking soda and spray peroxide and brush or make paste of baking soda and peroxide. Works well

This may work. I've cleaned mildew and stains from shower tile grouting this way so could work for you. Make a paste of bleach and baking soda (toothpaste consistency). Spread on grouting and leave for 12-24 hours. Wash off with warm water and a brush. May want to try on an inconspicous area first. Use rubber gloves and good ventilation. Good Luck. Be nice to know how it works for you.

Hi Trix, we used to deep clean the grout by hand once a year, a long and painful process. Now we use a drill set on low-speed and it made a huge difference. So much quicker and easier on your knees too, Here's a video that will show you how it's done - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flfAc_jMzvM. If the dirt is ingrained in the grout, you can always purchase a grout pen and recolor it too.
