An Ugly Shelf Becomes Functional and Pretty!

This was one of two hanging shelves that a friend sent home with me to see what I could come up with. I love this one!
While helping a friend downsize we were going to throw this ugly shelf out. Not because it didn't have potential, just because we were trying to make room. Instead it got sent home with me so that I could see if I could think of someway to use it. My friend needed more storage in her small kitchen so I decided to make it into a coffee cup storage area.
I did not take any progress pics, only before and afters. I took it apart, shortened the back board, puttied and sanded, and put it all back together. Next I painted it with homemade chalk paint and glazed it with black. With new cup hooks from Amazon this beauty was ready to go! She hangs in my friend's kitchen and holds plenty of coffee cups while being part of the decor as well.
Hanging in the kitchen! I also painted those cabinets...but that is for another post.
