Chaise Lounge Built From Scratch From Recycled Materials

I was asked if I would have a go at making chaise lounge for a friend but did not think it was something I would be able to do. So I decided to try and make one out of recycled products first, and the results were so great that it now has pride of place in my front room window.
recycled materials
The base box was made from recycled old fence posts that were glued together and supported with cross beams and corner supports. The legs were off an old table I repurposed I just cut them shorter. The padding was an old mattress, but must say I did have to add wadding to firm it up a bit. Couch foam must come in different firmnesses. I used an old camping mattress to pad the arches. (minus the cat)
To make the arches I googled "how to make a chaise lounge" and this image came up. This is not my image, but I used the design of the arch to make mine.
I just drew the arch on paper and transfer it over to the wood and cut around with a jigsaw. and cut supports to go between the arches, you dont see them so any scrap will do.
Handmade Chaise Lounge
I used strapping and weaved the base to support the mattress. I did add a thin layer of wadding on the base to give it a smoother look and I used an old sheet the line the base. The side panel was the top of an old computer desk, which was covered in wadding and the sheet like the base.
At the end of the day the only real cost to me was the fabric, which I saw on eBay and loved it and though it would go great with the Chaise. I know it will not be easy for everyone else to make this, I just wanted to show that it could be done.
Mini Chaise Lounge
I also made this smaller version for a friend who collects old dolls and cats.
Handmade Chaise Lounge
I had to move it for this photo, because of the light coming through the window, I am not very good at photography. But wanted a close up so you could see the great detail on the fabric. I am very proud of this creation.

That looks like an expensive professional upholstery job! Really nice! The piping makes it! What happened to the nailheads?

    • Thank you, I would prefer a cat any day to a doll. 😂 not a fan of creepy dolls either. Made for a friend.
