Reattaching a veneer?

Looking for a better way than the tape the previous tenants used. ;)
We have the missing piece.

Sand the wood and damaged piece to remove any adhesive. Brush CONTACT CEMENT on the wood and the back of the damaged piece. Let both dry until tacky to the touch. Once both are tacky, carefully line up one edge of the piece and slowly press in place. You have one try. Once both parts are stuck they cannot be moved. Use a wood block and rub the surface of the repair.

Since most of the veneer on that drawer is damaged, I personally would remove the rest of it from that face, buy a new piece and use the old as a template (or trace around another drawer), and attach the new piece using William's suggestion.
