Painting indoor outdoor carpet.

Question

I have a question. We have a lovely balcony off of our upstairs master bedroom.Its about 6x20. We spend alot of time out there in the evening and I love to have my coffee there every morning. I've been buying fixer upper pieces of furniture and lots of candles to make it cozy and inviting. The problem is the carpet. I do not want to rip it up, half of it is nice. Its super low weave and cleans easily, but one end is so stained it cannot be cleaned. I do not want to put rugs out there, I would like to know can I paint the entire carpet? I would love any input! Oh, its a light tan color and other than the stained end, its got no problems. Thank you!

My thought too. What is underneath. Personally I would not paint carpet. Be much easier to do something to whatever is underneath that might last longer.

Thank you. I think just wood is under the carpet. I dont think there is padding.

Wood trapped under carpet is bad...as it traps moisture and can lead to premature rot.

To avoid a mold/rot issue you could pull back the area that you are concerned about and inspect. If you see no signs of damage, then you could tack it back down and use a large damask or busy stencil in a light color all over the floor in a close pattern to cover the stain and have a pretty new floor design...

I had the same issue so, I got a dollar spray bottle, 2 bottles of liguid rid dye.
I then got an old clean towel, cut it pieces.
So I mixed my dye in a large pot kept warm on low burner.put on gloves, filled my spray bottle.and went to town, used old rags and gently rubes it in as I went. Loved it cost 9.00 and hour of my time
And looks brand new.
