Can I use a 3/4 inch rod with grommets?

    Have you measured the diameter of the hole in the grommets?

    Eye appealing curtain rods are usually 1 1/4". Ring hooks would mount on the curtain rod and the curtain would hook onto the rings through the grommets. The curtain grommets would not hang directly onto the rod.

      William, this is how you would hang a shower curtain with grommets too small for a rod. You wouldn't hang a curtain panel in your living room, for instance, like this. See the comment from Barbara C for regular curtains.

    William,Why do you think grommets are there?Run the rod through the grommets.Whatever size rod that will fit through the hole is the one to use.

      It all depends how you want the curtains to drape and the look your looking for. I worked for a nursing home and we had curtains with grommets. Threading the grommets onto the rod, they never stayed closed. They always crept open. So we started using rings. Problem solved.

    By the word "grommet", you are meaning those curtain panels that have a hole at the top, you just measure the INSIDE distance of the grommet. If the hole (or grommet) is say, 1-1/4" then you look for a 1" pole. You then thread the curtain on the rod.

    PS: if you are saying you ALREADY have a pole that's 3/4" in diameter, take a measuring tape with you when you go curtain shopping to ensure the curtain's grommets (or holes) are large enough. Dollar Stores selling inexpensive measuring tapes - I usually always carry one with me when shopping for the home.
