DIY Wall Art – Cheap and Easy Wall Art With Magic Stain

I have the most awkward wall in my dining room. In fact, it was so awkward that we weren’t able to make that room the living room and resigned it to be the dining room. It’s actually worked out really well having the dining room the first room when you come in our home, but there was a big. blank. wall. that greeted you. With a big ‘ol hole in the middle. Which made it really difficult to decorate. Besides, if I'm completely honest, I kinda hate decorating anyway. So I put it off. Now we’ve been in our home for over a year and decided it was time to do something – enter my DIY wall art. While the materials used in the project are pretty genius (umm hello – less than $20!!) the paint/stain was the BEST part. But it actually wasn’t paint or stain. I wanted the look of different color woods for my DIY wall art, but did NOT want to spend the time staining each of the pieces individually. The "magic stain" made the process SO SIMPLE.

The product used to get the different colored woods was quite simple - you brush on and it reacts with the tannins in the wood to create a stain. The more tannins in the wood - the darker the wood would become.

Does the product come in different hues? I'm wondering how you were able to get the wonderful teal color that coincidentally matches your decor. (it would match mine too). Since you say it works with the tannin in the wood, I'm thinking its a potluck of what you get? I followed the link to Amazon, they're out of stock and there's no date as to when they'll get more. I'm sure I can find it, but I want to make sure I understand the product before I get it. Your art is just lovely and I would certainly like to try it.

The produce used is "Better with Age Vintage Wood" by Amy Howard Paints. There are no color options as the product reacts directly with the wood and chemically changes the wood color. You can get the same effect using vinegar and steel wool but you have to expect that every time you use it, you may get a different color.

In love with this idea. I will file this in my DIY mind. Shims and or paint sticks are so inexpensive and can be used for many expensive looks.
