Create Your Own Wall Art With Recycled Materials

Looking to update the decor in your home? Why not start with some great DIY wall art. Not an artist? You don't have to be to make this wall art with recycled materials.
Start by gathering up materials that interest you. I pull out my "junk" boxes and look for textures that inspire me depending on the area I plan to hang the art work.
You will also need a base to attach your work to. This could be a canvas or wood depending on the weight of the material you will be attaching and the look you are going for.
After you have your base canvas begin arranging your recycled materials until you are happy with the way they look. Have fun with this by mixing textures, shapes and sizes.
When you have your pieces the way you like them begin attaching them to your base. You can do this with adhesive or screws depending on what you are working with. Start with the bottom layer and work your way up.
Once everything is attached it is time to pull it all together. Spray paint the entire piece with the same color. This gives all those odds and ends pieces what it needs to become a cohesive piece of art.
Add a small piece for added color and interest like the cabinet knob sprayed in teal. There are no rules! The best part is, you can always change the color if you do not like it.
The first time I painted this piece I was planning on using it in the guest bedroom at our lake house fixer upper but once we started decorating I decided to use it in the living room area so I spray painted it gold and added a silver piece with it.
