Securing throw rugs to floor

I have a new engineered wood floor. When I had tile I used carpet tape - strong sticky on each side to hold the rug in place (stumbling and falling from getting a foot caught on those rugs is bad news for seniors). I removed them from the tile, but I sure would like to put them back (especially at the front door when it rains!). Will I mess up the wood if I try the sticky tape? If so, any other suggestions?

I wouldn't use the tape. We have engineered hardwood floors and I would hate for the chemicals in the tape to stain the floor. I just use a non-slip mat underneath.

I think the tape will damage your floor as well. Agreed on the non-slip mats.

My wife buys a roll or rubberized anti-slip from Wal-Mart that is friendly to wood flooring. It doesn't leave a stain. I don't know the name of the product.

Thank You Ljgordon, the last roll of anti-slip that I bought from Wal-Mart for a bathroom mat, didn't work at all. Maybe I got the wrong thing. I'll have to look again. Thanks for your suggestion.

I have heard of people putting some rubber type caulking strips vertical to the mat to hold them in place? but admit I have never tried this myself

Use the sticky product that just peels off wall. Feels like white gum.

I would avoid the two sided sticky tape. I used it to secure a n outdoor carpet on my balcony and it left residue when I lifted the carpet to store it for the winter. Then I had to use a scrubby to remove the residue from the cement. Messy.

hope it works for you... and obviously the caulking goes on the underside of the rug
