I need some jazz and pizzazz for an entry way

We just purchased a fantastic (for us) 1980's home... I would love to create a beautiful and unique entry and desperately need inspiration. I appreciate your thoughts and ideas on where to start. We are in south FL with mosquitoes a huge threat to our area - so no standing water or fountains. Thank you for viewing my project.

Your home appears to be fairly contemporary. If possible, go to your local library and search out books on mid century homes for pictures of entry ways. I'ts a good place to start. While your front doors are pretty they don't fit the style of the house. If you can afford to, I would replace the front doors. (The existing doors would probably bring good price if sell them!) You probably would want a more simple front door with single lites in obscure glass or clear if your front entry doesn't face a main street. As for planting, I would consider succulents in pots or drought tolerant plants. How about turning the larger area with the roof opening into a little sitting area with cute wrought iron table and chairs. You could easily add inexpensive tiles or pavers set in sand to the area.

A pretty fountain may look nice in the left entry. With a small pump it would not be standing water.

Your left covered entry in full shade would be an excellent spot for a small table and two chairs or a beautiful bench, to sit and to enjoy the privacy. Add a vertical sculture to stage it.

Depending on your budget - paint your front doors a bright color like turquoise or replace them since they are very dated. I grew up in Florida and know that there are lots of plants that will do well in shade and heat - ask your neighbors and your local nursery what will work best. Enjoy your new home!

I agree, paint some nifty colors. and peek around and ask neighbors what plants are working best. (don't count out founatains, remember running water will not breed your mosquiitos, only standing water). And if you want creative? Think building in an aviary.

I don't know what your budget is but here goes.....I love to play with lighting and see what interesting shapes and shadows I can achieve with it....The left side with the total shade and no rain would be a perfect place to use some back lit wall art....With the contemporary house this would be striking....The right side with part shade would be a great place for some of the shade loving succulents....You've got a great blank space to have fun with.....Look in architectural magazines to see what some of the high end homes are doing and then scale down...Let us all know how it turned out.
