This guy is pretty big. 69" long x 22" deep x 63" tall. My mom brought it to the states when her and my dad were married. My mom later gave it to my aunt and uncle. The whole thing comes apart for shipping and or transporting, since this guy has traveled such long distances, Germany to North Carolina to Mississippi to Washington St. then moved again around Washington at least 6 more times. Yep... we moved a lot when I was growing up, dad was in the army.
With all the moving this guy has taken a real beating.. I wanted to keep as much of the original finish as possible. Unfortunitley the large doors had cracks running all the way through, the sides (pressboard) gouged and warped, the 2 center doors had some issues at the top, and one of the glass doors for the top center was missing.
I decided to remove the 2 large side doors, and paint the outside only.
My finished product. I struggled and later realized, sometimes you just have no choice but to add a little paint. if you are selling a peice, you have to evaluate your situation and your clientele, to remake this peice would have been costly. There is no sentimental value to the peice, so in this case I had to keep the cost down for resell purposes. On the flip side, if this would have been a treasured family heirloom, then by all mean ALWAYS take the time , effort and money to bring the peice back to its original glory.
