Turn Thrift Store Faux Pumpkins Into Gorgeous Indoor Fall Décor

I keep a list of things to keep an eye out for when I am in the thrift store on my iPhone. My experience has been that when I have something specific in mind I never seem to find what I am looking for. But when I enter the store with an open mind I have a lot more success finding some really great items. Having the list on my phone helps me jog my memory for what to look for when I am in the thrift store. One of the items on my list are the paper mache style pumpkins and squashes. Even if it is February or June I will rummage through the seasonal section looking for out of season items. They are very inexpensive and are fun to add to indoor and outdoor fall décor. I should also add these pumpkins are available at the dollar store too!
I wanted to give my pumpkin collection a newer updated look. I love all of the fall colours but I have to admit I love the combined look of white chalk style paint and copper metallic paint. This is how I used these two colours to turn thrift store faux pumpkins into gorgeous fall décor!
The first step is to apply two light coats of a spray primer. The primer covers the original surface and makes it much easier to evenly apply the paint.
The second step is to apply two coats of a white chalk style paint. I love the new texture and look created by this paint on the faux pumpkins.
The third step is to paint the top and stem of the pumpkin with copper metallic paint.
The fourth step is to apply copper metallic tinsel glitter on top of the copper metallic paint. I used watered down craft glue as the adhesive and applied it with a paint brush.
The last step is to spray the pumpkins with a matte finish finishing spray. This final step really secures the tinsel glitter so it does not fall off.

I placed mine in a square brown platter. It makes a gorgeous table centrepiece on the living room coffee table for the fall season.
