DIY Sofa Shelf - Easiest Solution for a Common Problem

Don't let floor vents dictate where you place your furniture ever again. A simple solution to a very common problem. Inexpensive and done in no time!
Heat and a/c need to come from below a couch that is virtually right on the ground. What to do? Move the couch out about 8 inches, mount a wooden shelf on the wall and let all that good air circulate.
This couch would have sat directly on the floor vent
The air freely flows behind the couch and out into the room

Made from a 2 x 8 piece of knotty pine, stained and polyurethaned
Now the couch sits in front of the vent instead of over it.

I have 16" pots of ginger, lemon grass and turmeric sitting between the vents by my windows so they do not get blocked, but the grass especially interferes with operation of the window shades. This would hold the lemon grass back so the shades could go up and down freely. It would also give my cats a new place to lounge in the sunlight in the winter.
