Can anyone identify this plant, please?

This unusual plant cropped up shortly after the beginning of summer. It has grown fairly fast. It looks similar to a papaya tree that my mom grew years ago in Brownsville, Texas, but there's no reason for it to crop up here nearly 300 miles away?! No one around here eats papaya! I'd like to know what it is and what it's habits are. Is it annual or perennial, does it produce anything, and how and where did it come from? Thanks for your help!

That was my first thought, but knew them as Castor OIL bush, a pain in the Butt & come up every where.

Latin name 'Ricinus communis'. = Castor Bean. Seeds are very poisonous.

Yes, I am fairly certain that this is a castor plant and the seeds are highly toxic.

All parts of the plant are poisonous. Keep the kids away. I love the castor bean plant and plant it every year. Ricin, the poison, is made from the coating of the bean.

Thank y'all so much! Even though it's a nice tropical looking plant, after reading how poisonous it is, I think I'll get rid of it. :( How disappointing, but with kids and animals in the neighborhood, it seems the only safe thing to do. Thank y'all again!

When I was growing up, lots of people grew castor bean plants. Teach your kids that it's poison, then enjoy it!
