Barbara Carter on Sep 14, 2013One of the most beautiful shades that makes you feel 'alive' and 'beautiful' yourself is the lighter, softness of the peach/apricot family of color with the wood trim in your house a 'pearl' color. I have seen this combination and it is gorgeous. I personally find dark colors to be depressing. Be happy when your through that's the most important thing. Also light greens bring out a positive you. Keep smiling and paint to your heart's content. :) 'Barbara CarterHelpful Reply

Sue on Sep 14, 2013Hi Mary. So excited when I saw you are from Ky. Me too!! I think the light gray would be very nice. If you painted it in any shade of blue, I think you would have a hard time finding one that would go with and not detract from all your blue accessories. Just my opinion.Helpful Reply

CORINNE on Sep 14, 2013You already have different shades of blue throughout the area, so I would go with aqua! It would be beautiful and really make the room pop!Helpful Reply

Leona G on Sep 14, 2013Since the blue/green of your accents seems to be a favorite color I would go with a white color with a tint of that color added. A couple that you might like are aquacade, watersquirt, and brooklet all by sherwin williams. You can go the site and try the colors out. These are all in the white color group. Good luckHelpful Reply

Gail Salminen on Sep 14, 2013@Mary T a very challenging question. Ofcourse a lot depends on you tastes. You have a lot of great suggestions here, each with their own merit. On my personal level, I would vote for a soft aqua/blue. Houz has a link that shows various blue paints in various rooms. It might give your a better idea of how to view the room and choose. http://www.houzz.com/blue-paint-color There are a lot of choices there as well as a lot of inappropriate shades for your room, but there a also alot that may work just right for you. In most they also have the colour number in the description. I would keep the trim a white colour, I think that will set off whatever wall colour you choose. Thanks for posting and do update us on your decision/colour etc.Helpful Reply

Amy Woods on Sep 14, 2013I would pull one of the neutral colors of the stone from the fireplace or a light blue to go with your accents. It depends on what you want the room to feel like. Those two colors would make the room calm and soothing. If you want a more cheerful, slightly more energized look, the coral or soft peach would work. Both of those are different values of orange. All of your accents are blue. Blue and orange are complementary colors. Putting complementary colors together creates a more energized feel.Helpful Reply

Nancy on Sep 14, 2013I agree with Amy in selecting a color from the fireplace. I would go with a light taupe and paint moldings white. This would pull all of your brown tones together and highlight your sofa and chair. Your blue family would be accessories.Helpful Reply

Darlene on Sep 14, 2013Benjamin Moore has two colors that I think might work great in your room but so much depends on lighting it is hard to say for sure from a picture. I love Edgecomb Gray or it's slightly darker version of Revere Pewter (HC172 and Hc173). These are kind of a beige/gray with green undertones. I have used this in both my homes and they look so very different depending on the light. It is even fun to watch how these colors change from morning to night. If you want a more blue undertone, try Eternity (AF695). To me this is really the classic French gray but, again depending on your lighting, can come across as more of a grayed blue rather than a gray with blue undertone. You may be able to get a sample of these at your local BM dealer. If at all possible, I always test by painting a large sample square (at least 12" x 12"), put it over a larger piece of white, then hold it up to the wall. But remember to test your color in more than one wall. A dark corner will look really different than a bright, window lit wall.Helpful Reply

Briget on Sep 14, 2013A soft buttery yellow would be light and yet cozy at the same time. It would also show off all the pieces you have chosen for these rooms, which I love! Great job BTW.Helpful Reply

Cyndi Moore Tippett on Sep 14, 2013I just painted my kitchen Cobblestones by Valspar and it is a wonderful warm neutral color. It reminds me of sand because it has a wonderful yellow undertone. It goes well with browns, blues and white. I have it in my hallways too, but I put it in my kitchen because I don't get much light in there with only one window. Good luck with your choice....with so many colors to choose from it can be overwhelming.Helpful Reply

Jean DeSavage on Sep 14, 2013Your rooms have a feel of a french country home, especially with the french provencial coffee table in the living room. If you used the suggested light buttery yellow, use a VERY light one. Yellow has a way of appearing much brighter after it's dried. Since you said that the room is somewhat dark, I would stay away from any dark color. If you were going to use something other than the yellow, you need to decide if you want the room to appear and feel warm, or cool and zen like in colors. With the neutrals you already have in the room, I would go with a warmer color, whatever that color will be. Though grey is very popular right now, I personally don't like it, since I live in Michigan and the winter here is grey enough for me, I sure don't want it in my home! You've done a great job already in your room, I'm sure you'll get the best color for you. Do be sure to sample the color you choose on a large sample piece and be sure to have it one every wall for a full day so you can see how it changes. Paint on a window wall will look much different from a wall where the sun actually hits the wall.Helpful Reply

Kandy kunze on Sep 14, 2013a soft blue, change the way the furniture sits, and build some big bookshelves on that wall across from the fire place if your going to keep the T.V on the wall, then use your decorating ideas on the shelves, I really like your furniture you placed around the fireplace, really cute!Helpful Reply

Yvette on Sep 14, 2013Love your home. But I'd stay away from the beige and tans. You've got brown floors, brown in the wicker furniture. I agree with Kandy. I'd go with a very light blue. Use your blues and tans for accents. It looks like your dining room rug has some purple/lavender in it. That would go great with the blue and give you another accent color to tie the rooms together.Helpful Reply

Mary Laniewski on Sep 14, 2013You have to ask yourself if you want cool are warm colors? Your sofa is white.. I would go with a pretty turquise with white wood work. You can always change out your pillows to make a room look different. Bring some swatches home and position on the wall. Lighting changes everything. Happy painting.Helpful Reply

April on Sep 16, 2013I would say pale beige or aqua would add a happy feel and lighten up the room, or perhaps a green (okay I'm a little biased on that one - as green is my favorite color LOL!) - But it's up to you as to what you feel you'd be most happy with. Please let us know what you decide! :)Helpful Reply

My front room is a light blue/aqua, and one of my guest rooms/grand daughters room is light blue so I think I am going to go with the greige color in a lighter shade. Many people suggested a pale yellow but I have that in our basement. I really love all of you for helping me figure this out! Thank you so much! I will try to get a better picture after we have painted, hopefully next week.Helpful Reply

John on Sep 22, 2013First, the color has to be what you personally are in-tune with. If you do not like gray, don't do it. If green is not your cup of tea, stay away from it. What color you decide on, has to also match the connecting rooms to have a good transition as you move about your home. Take paint samples or swatches and place them side to side and see if they match or flow together. Will the color go with the window treatment? The other colors such as pillows (cheap to replace, and new ones always look great) should also not clash. Get a pint of the color and paint a small section of the wall to see if you like it. It may cost a bit to do it, but most paint stores can work with you on picking a color that can be changed to try other variants of that color. Bottom line, if you like it, and are happy, don't pay attention to the other suggestions if you will not like it. This is the fun and joy of painting.Helpful Reply

Debra on Nov 12, 2014Your thought on a soft gray is the best, it goes with everything and you have the right colors to complement with the gray. Also gray is very in right now and has been for the past year and from all reports it is here to stay. Go with the gray you won't be sorry. The color range on gray is very large from the gray/tan, to gray/blue, gray/green etc. Sherwin Williams has the best gray color scale, check them out.Helpful Reply
