I was at a loss with how to bring new life to my Grandmother's China Hutch that I had acquired. It was beginning to not "fit it" and needed a new look.
I had done a Curio Cabinet Makeover -- http://myheavenlyrecipes.com/curio-cabinet-makeover-using-chalky-finish/ -- and knew as soon as I completed it that I needed to make my china hutch match. I have so many mis matched pieces in my dining room that I just couldn't take all the wood stains any longer.
See what I mean? I had redone my Dining Room Table -- http://www.hometalk.com/diy/kitchen-dining/kitchen-dining-furniture/tired-old-table-gets-farmhouse-look-15716769 -- and needed to get this piece updated. It was one of the larger pieces (besides the buffet, which will be getting posted on Hometalk in the next few weeks so stay tuned!) and wanted it to work on getting the pieces to have a similar feel. Once I get the furniture pieces complete I knew the walls were going to go light. Out with the tan and green!
I ended up cleaning up the dining room hutch with some krud kutter. Then lightly scuffed down the entire piece and tack clothed it. Now that was probably a bit of overkill, but, I 100% believe that the prep work is what makes your pieces beautiful. If you don't take the time to properly clean and prep the pieces it's not going to come out with professional/store bought results.

I then applied two coats of Americana Decor Chalky Paint in Relic. I then added two coats of Americana Decor Brown Creme Wax. Once the outside was complete I removed the glass shelving and inserted the Paisley Print paper with Decoupage and then also sealed the outside of the paper so it would wipe up easily if I ever needed to.
