Make Throw Pillows With Plastic Bag Stuffing

Tired of paying an arm and a leg for pillow stuffing or pillow forms?! Here's an alternative - use plastic bag filling with just a little bit of cotton filling around the edges (I used an old sleeping pillow for this).
Choose your fabric.
Cut out your pillows (leave an inch for a hem).
Sew the pillow.
Cut the edges and extra fabric.
Here is what I used to fill the pillows - plastic bags and an old sleeping pillow.
Stuff the pillow. Use cotton in the edges and on the outside. Use plastic bags for everything else.

Are the pillows noisy when you sit or use them?

About how many bags are needed to keep the shape? Plastic bags do flatten rather easily. Not that there's ever a short supply of plastic bags but wondering how they hold up.

Wouldn't you have to take the whole thing apart to wash it?

  • i've been doing this for years but used old,(clean) ladies nylon hose. Whenever I got a bad run in them I put them in a bag and stored them. I washed the pillows with the hose inside. Then just squeezed them out and during the summer, put them on a chair outside for the sun to finish drying.

Great idea. I always wonder how to use all my plastic bags.
