Need suggestions on water proofing around the tub/shower!

We replaced our bathtub with a whirlpool tub. I am thinking about galvanized tin across the front of the tub. The wall around the top of the tub and shower areas need help! We thought about tile but, we don't have any idea how to do this. I would like something cheap, that looks like stainless. lol hope you can understand!!!

The walls need to be built out of cement board for waterproofing purposes. Even though it is a tub not a shower, water and moisture can be an issue. So that is why tile is usually a good choice. Here is a link to tiling: http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/rooms-and-sp...

This is a bigger job than you might want! Above Marketing Mom is right, you will need to build a cement board wall and then install tile, or vinyl bead board. You might look into peel and stick tile at the big box stores and see if that would work.

To reduce moisture always run the exhaust fan when using the whirlpool. No fan? It is a priority to prevent mold in your house-unless you live in the desert. If you are using the tub any areas left un protected because of the install should be covered with 4 mil plastic and secured with duct tape until surround is installed..

I will assume since you have already replaced, your back wall moisture issue was taken into consideration before with the old tub. If you are heart set on the 'steam punk' metal look, it is not that expensive to have a stainless piece made and installed, you might be surprised. To use stick-on or a cheap fix, that is what you will end up and it will not hold. Consider what kind of investment this is and how you want to treat your home value.

silicone caulk to seal every crack/crevice, and yes, you will need hardi-backer behind all surfaces exposed to moisture......
