Bathroom Ladder

When I posted about our bathroom floor, I got a lot of questions about the ladder above the toilet. I made it using furring strips, stain, wire, and screws I already had, and a wire basket. I found my basket at Hobby Lobby. The total cost for this project was $20 and it makes quite a statement in our space. I am going to explain how I built it but since it was already done, I can't exactly show pictures of the process so feel free to ask any questions that you have! And because I know some people will ask, the tiered tray on the counter is from Sams!
Here is my embarrassing attempt at building plans.....
I highly recommend staining every single side of your wood after you make the cuts and before you put it together. We drilled in from the back using 3/4" screws.
Its a little hard to see but we used a 2" screw in the wall and some wire looped/wrapped around the head of the screw and the back of the basket to secure it to the wall. This step is required - especially if you have kiddos! It isn't heavy but it will try to lean away from the wall and you are bound to bump or nudge it at some point.
We used two screws to support the basket, I colored them with a brown sharpie so they wouldn't be a clean shiny silver up against the wood.
Suggested materials:
  • Furring strips   (Home Depot)
  • Stain - Minwax's Provincial   (Home Depot)
  • (6) 3/4" screws

Hi Suzanna, I love your tile on the floor of the bathroom - where did you get it? Thanks in advance!

Is the screw that secures the basket to the wall enough to keep the piece stable? If I used a larger basket, would I also need to secure the sides of the ladder as well? I absolutely love your idea!
