Cleaning cellophane that's stuck to china

I unpacked antique china only to find it was wrapped in cellophane. China that has been stored in cellophane is a mess - it is printed and is stuck to the fine china (Lenox). Is there is liquid solution I can use to make this easier to unstick. I am using a mild abrasive pad that seems to be helping but I hope to find a solvent that will speed up the process.

I'm not sure I understand the problem. What are you using the 'mild abrasive pad' on? Is the cellophane just stuck to the china? Have you tried warm soapy water? You might try putting a piece in the freezer to see if the cellophane will stiffen & separate from the china. It may or may not work, but be careful not to tap the china against a hard surface when it is very cold.

Agree; soak in hot soapy water (Dawn seems to be recommended for everything), overnight if necessary and wipe with coarse cloth. Freezer idea sounds possible, too, but I wouldn't use any abrasives, especially if it's bone china (translucent when held to light,); will definitely scratch good china, especially any pattern.

In the craft area of WalMart they sell an adhesive remover. Other craft stores do too. I've also purchased one at a drug store. They should not affect the Lenox china since the design has been fired on in a kiln. The drug store kind is safe for my skin - so it's pretty mild.

Try a cloth soaked in vinegar or ammonia. You can also try Goo Gone.

Vegetable oil. With the vegetable oil put on a cloth and wrap the cloth around item let it sit for about a hour, then go back and try to peel it off. If that doesn't work try Goo Gone.

I saved a set of dishes that had been in a fire......tons of smoke damage....used a pot of weak TSP, put in a few dishes to soak for hours, then washed with Dawn...took time, but worked!
