Redoing a popcorn ceiling in a beach condo

Question

What can I put on the ceiling of a beach condo in Florida where humidity is really present? We have popcorn ceiling everywhere and I am not sure that it is good to put panelling on it....Did someone have a solution for that. I dont want to remove the popcorn, it is to messy

I am seeing people putting a variety  wood plank/sheet products on the popcorn ceilings that look great and can be somewhat easy to install. I would advise making sure you have primed/sealed all sides of the product before putting it up on the ceiling  if you are concerned with your humidity problem.

I have also been researching what to do about mine, VERY messy to remove. I found foam ceiling tiles on amazon that can be glued up right on top of existing popcorn ceilings. About $2.50 for a 20x20 inch and also come in boxes of 40 I think it was, for a reasonable price.  I can't wait to do the whole house but will start in my bedroom. They can also be painted but come in white.

Water , get a portable bug sprayer and just use water,  let it sit for a few minutes ant then use a paint scraper , I did it it works. Happy Scraping !

Lowes sells a vinyl beadboard product  and I believe that Home Depot does also. That would cover and give you the beach you feeling.  aicmillworks.com has different colors to choose from.

Why don't you add another layer of drywall on top of the popcorn? It is easy and s lot less messy than removing the popcorn and skim coating the ceiling.

There are also the styrofoam tiles that are intended to cover popcorn ceilings - they actually look pretty good and you can paint them.

We moved into our house in AZ in 1988.  We had the entire house spray painted before moving in, including the popcorn ceilings.  Here we are 28 years later, and the ceilings still look great!

Hi!  I, too, had peeling popcorn in my ocean front condo.  My husband installed 12' tongue and groove tiles right over the popcorn and we have had no trouble.  Alternatively, out neighbors installed bead board and left it natural for a beach you look.  Hope this helps!
