Grandpa's Dump Table

My grandpa found these legs and top in the dumpster about a hundred years ago. The legs were on one side and the top was on the other. He got in, took his needed parts home and turned them into this little side table.
After my grandma died over a year ago, all of their belongings were dispersed between the grandchildren. My husband and I had just bought a large house (see my blog for that transformation/remodel) and had room to keep some furniture. No one wanted this table, so I took it.
This summer, I found Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and decided she was going to catapult me into a different painting dimension. I chose this table as my first piece to paint because it seemed right. I get most of my talent from my grandpa (and, in turn, my dad). I think he'd be proud of how he is still a part of my life after being gone for over 20 years. And especially that he's a major part of my business's success.
This table was painted with Florence, distressed, and dark waxed. I didn't use clear wax because I didn't know what I was doing! I really love how it turned out, even without the clear.

I just love her lines!

This is a "demilune" table (which means "half-moon" in French). Even though the legs and top were separate when your grandfather found them, it's my guess they actually were together at one point, prior to being thrown in the trash. This blogger found one a couple years ago that looks identical to yours. http://foreverdecorating.blogspot.com/2011/09/week-23-diamonds-in-rough-part-1.html I love these little tables (they're so versatile) and I have a couple in my house. Yours looks lovely in her new color.
    • @Shari Thanks for the history! I love learning new things!!! The story had been relayed to me by my aunt. Someone must have really not like this table to go to such lengths to put it into the dump! I love her!

I have almost the same table..... little less intricate spindling on the legs, but I have it right at my front entrance..... but still needing to be re glued and stained or painted.... having trouble with what still.
