Upcycle Old Doily For Earring Display

It's simple, easy and makes a beautiful wall hanging as well as a place to display your earrings.
Doilies can be found at yard sales and thrift stores if you don't crochet your own. The one I used in this photo is about 9" in diameter, including the overhang that made a natural ruffle edging.

Using the embroidery hoop, stretch the doily over the smaller hoop and fit the larger hoop around it, keeping the doily tucked within.

Trim the outside with ribbon, add flower buds if you choose.

Hang your earrings and you are not only able to find your favorite earrings quickly but you have a beautiful wall hanging as well.
Suggested materials:
  • Doily   (thrift store or yard sale (or crochet your own))
  • Embroidery hoop   (Joann's has hoops in several sizes, it's easy to find one suitable for any size doily.)
  • Ribbon, artificial flower buds (optional for trim)   (my craft stash)

Could fabric stiffener be used on the ruffle, outside the hoop to make it stiff? Or should the stiffener be used on the whole doily? I'd like to make this for a Christmas gift. Thank you!
