A story about my heritage and a DIY video tutorial, how to blend colors, create a color gradient inspired by a Mexican serape with DIY clay based paint, frog tape and clear wax.
I started by looking for the perfect dresser on Craigslist, as soon as I saw this one I knew it was the perfect canvas for my idea.
First I practiced on a five dollar piano bench... it didn't come out like I had hoped so I decided to sleep on it and try again in the morning.
I painted over and tried again on the same bench. this time I felt confident enough to paint the dresser. I often find that some projects take several tries to perfect at least that's how my creative process often works.
I started blending colors using a clay based paint which can be reactive with water so it's easy to create a gradient..
I filmed a video showing all of the steps! In this video I share a fun tip about sanding and using the pigment dust to add to the blended finish.
I posted lots of tips and tricks for getting this look on my blog. Please visit for more fun DIY videos and tutorials. http://debisdesigndiary.com/ombre-ole-the-story-of-my-2-dads/

I wanted to see the top drawer with the wood embellishment. How did that turn out? Or did you take it off? I LOVE this dresser. It looks just like a Mexican blanket. On a side note: I always hesitate to comment on Hometalk posts because there is no way for me to unsubscribe from the post....the unsubscribe button is gray-ed out on the constant posts I get forever afterward....HOW DO I TURN IT OFF AFTER I GET MY RESPONSE TO MY QUESTIONS? I can't even figure out how to ask that question of Hometalk.

I just painted an antique china cabinet with acrylic paint. Should I put wax on over the paint and if so what kind? Love your stuff. Good luck with your 2 dads.
