Kill mosquitoes

I work in aged care and at the moment we are having floods in Australia so there is lots of water around and the mosquitoes are out in there millions. The roofs of some of our residents are black with them all. We are unable to spray repellent into the rooms because it will set off the fire alarms and sprinklers. Does anyone know of a way to get the all to fly into the bait jars like you can with flies?

You need to empty all items that have water in them. Anything such as a birdbath or pond you can use a safe product called mosquito dunks.
    • The nursing home is next to a river that is flooding at the moment so that is not a option. We always hear of these clever people who have potions that attract them. Looking to put something in the room and they will all magically flock to it and die.

If you have a Koi pond, get a few Mosquito fish. They don't require any maintenance to speak of and they eat the mosquito larvae. They hang around the top of the water. Their eyes are like a frog's sticking on top of their heads so they can hunt while submerged. Once in a while, a Koi may swallow one by mistake, but they spit them out. These fish multiply like crazy, so share them with others. Janet's suggestion is a great first step.

From WIKI How "Put out a dish of soapy water. If you're having an outdoor meal, you can keep mosquitoes away by placing a dish of water with some dish soap in a discreet place nearby. The mosquitoes will be attracted to the water source, and they'll get trapped in the soap bubbles and drown." It is the same principle of using Cider Vinegar, and soapy water for gnats.

Plan around the windows basil plant. Mosquitos hate it. This herb has strong smell when you touch it but maybe some people with asthma will not tolerate

Oh you are welcome I hope it helps. I live in Florida where the mosquito should be the state bird, the state bug and the state pest!! I have used a steamer to get rid of bugs before, I wonder if that would help indoors also. My particular steamer is a tank steamer with a long hose and attachments, not an upright. It is called Steamfast. I wish you much success with getting rid of the pests.

When we had plagues of mosquitoes after the 2010 floods people were spraying theirs fences and exterior areas with old fashioned Listerine. They said it was very effective and lasted for several days.
