Redecorating teen girls room

My teen daughter is redecorating her room. She wants some sort of ACCENT PIECE that not many people will have. (Hopefully cheap :-) )We looked into a loft bed. But we figured that she grow out of that fast. It wasn't a very realist idea either because her room has shelves on 3 of the 4 walls. Any ideas?
We just got a new bed spread.

You may find some different ideas here. www.pinterest.com/starestar/teen-bedrooms/

Have her come up with a color scheme, based on some sort of inspiration from a rug, picture, bedding, etc. Then paint the room, paint the dresser, add artwork, new bedding (unless she is keeping this cute bedding). I like the shelf around the room - such a fun touch!

Since she already has a day bed, why not use that to make a statement piece? You could add wood slats (matching the wood look in the dresser) or planking across the back of it to create the look of a headboard- it could go straight across or make an arched top. You could make it higher than the window ledge for extra "drama". Painting the entire piece will unify the wood Keep the bedspread alone but by placing the pillows across the new headboard it will create the one of a kind piece she is looking for.

Lol-that's 1/2 the battle with most teens!! Also, once you've finished with the bed, I would slide it over directly under that window. Then tie up and drape the curtains that are already there to create an almost canopy effect over the bed.

I love that dresser! I also had the same idea as Sue. Make a "backboard" to match the dresser rather than head or foot board. Then, pick one window and frame it on both sides with bookshelves.

Paint the bottom half of the room one color and paint the top a lighter color. Paint the bed frame white. Add shiplap to the one wall that doesn't have a shelf. Look for an flea market or yard sale chandelier to paint if you have an overhead light fixture. Have fun!

Since she likes Emojis, how about making a headboard to look like an Emoji. Take a piece of plywood & cut it into a 3/4 circle leaving the extra plywood attached until you can measure where it will sit up on the bed. The 3/4 will be above the bed & the flat part will be attached to the bed behind the head of the bed. Get some batting (used for quilting) & cover the plywood circle part with it gluing it down. Get some yellow fabric big enough to cover the batting & plywood. First, let your daughter pick out which Emoji she likes the best & draw the face onto the fabric using the plywood as your guide & let it dry completely. Cover the batting & plywood with the fabric, making sure the face is in the center, & gather it up & tack it down on the back of the piece of plywood. Using the same fabric, cut a circle out the same size as the back of the plywood & glue it down covering the tacks to make it neat. Screw the whole thing into the head of her bed creating an Emoji headboard as her accent piece. :)

This was sent via email from hometalk. This would be perfect for the dresser and give her not only a pop of color but a unique piece she's wanting. She can then coordinate the colors to her bedspread. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/bedroom/furniture/how-to-create-a-faux-denim-look-on-painted-furniture-22581407...

You could maximize the daybed by adding cushions along the back to make it look more like a sofa and therefore a more grown up hang out type room. I bought foam and cut two long pieces that I used king sized pillowcases to cover.

Get a canvas tarp and have her paint it, seal it with polyurethane, and create a one of a kind rug

Thank you Trudy &a Barbra!!! I love the idea of a day bed and a personalized rug!

Thank you Trudy for your idea! What type of cushions would you use?
    • Trudy Trudy on Oct 11, 2016
I made my cushions with foam that I bought at a fabric store and then coverend with king size pillow cases.

I would center the bed under the window and built shelves on either side. Move the desk under the other window.

Along the same idea as Barbara, you could buy a blank canvas at a art supply store and have her paint it, make a collage, or personalize it however she would like. Large canvases are pretty inexpensive (especially when on sale). Just make sure the frames are flat and not bent or bowed. Lesson learned the hard way! Another idea is sit down with her on Pinterest or even images on a search engine to see what other teen girls' rooms look like and you may find some inspiration there or try to recreate together.

You can agree on 1-2 central colours which are more feminine(white/beige/purple/gold) and change the curtains/pillows/wall coluor acordding that. buy some sutiable wall stickers at the same color. good luck

Growing up, my bedroom had those shelf walls too. I painted the top half in a bright color (Lime green was popular back then). I also added a couple stripes on the upperhalf where the head of my head was.

Not sure of the dimensions of the room, but what about shifting the bed so the headboard is in the corner? She might like the look of a bed teester or bed "crown" - and she can use bed sheets instead of buying pricier fabric. It definitely would be a nice statement piece.
