S.O.S Calling all Domestic-ista's!

Question

These table clothes were stored in a plastic bag after an event and they are now mouldy. We plan to try bleaching but we aren't certain it will work... Does anyone have advice on how to repair them... Thank you!! #cleaning

I would spray them with lemon juice and water mixture and put them out in the hot sun to bleach. Good luck!

I would first ask what the fabric is? You can soak them in cold water and a few tablespoons of non chlorine bleach. You can also use Rit, there is a stain/ whitener for non bleachable fabrics. Good luck!

Wash them detergent add a small amount of bleach. Hang them in the SUN to dry.

Okay.. I believe the fabric is a polyester. I have garbage bags of these tablecothes so I it's not just one that needs fixing. I just tried washing it with my homemade detergent that has oxyclean, borax and washing soda. No results... still just as bad :(. I live in Vancouver BC... our rainy season started so it could be months before we get a good sunny day again. I will try the lemon juice...

I have heard that oil of cloves is effective in getting rid of mould. I don't know if you can use that on your fabric though.

I think you've gotten some great advice on getting rid of the mold. I would like to add a tip for you though. You know those little pouches of silica you get in new shoes and purses and it also comes in some medications. SAVE THOSE!!! When you need to store anything in bags like that again just toss a couple of those in... They'll absorb any moisture that gets in and keep things from molding.

in a large plastic bowl, put up to 2 cups BIZ powder and very hot water. Use a wooden spoon to stir and dissolve the Biz. Place your moldy cloths in....I've used heavy pots to make sure they stay under the water. Check in two days. If the mold is still there, drain and do again. I've used this method on everything that doesn't use bleach.

From one old lady try this. You use hot water and vinegar. The vinegar kills the mildew. If that doesn't work bleach with some dishwashing powder soak awhile) and hang outside in the sunlight. Mildew hate heat and sun.

you can buy large bags of those at camping supplies stores like camping world. I have to put in my toy hauler during the winter...you could probably open the huge one and make a lot of smaller ones...:)

Bleach with dishwashing det. works wonders. Soak in really large tubs of hot water. Or in washing machine over night then was as usual. Hang outside to dry. You can use kitty litter in plastic bags for storage to keep moisture out. RID also makes a product for keeping items mold free. I think the Dollar store sells that too.

I would soak them in hot water with dishwashing detergent and biz in a bucket over night, then wash on hot as usual in the washer.

My favorite rescue treatment is Oxi clean or similar type product. Put 3-4 scoops in a large bucket with hot water and soak all day or overnight. The cloths can later be washed in the oxyclean since it is a cleaner.

i have soak in vinegar and baking soda in regular temp water in the washing machine for a day then when i was ready to wash i added some bleach ,that is on whites only, for coloured skip the bleach .worked fine for me

Also try peroxide and Shout scrub real good with your hands and let them in the solution for awhile .My neighbor uses this on all problem stain and such
