What to do with paintable wallpaper problem?

Any suggestions (other than remove) for paintable wallpaper used in our main bathroom. Although painted it is still "soft" and dents and scratched very easily. You have to be careful with it everywhere but it is a big problem near our hanging hand towel bar. I thought the paint would harden and set the paper but this wasn't the case. Any suggestions?

What did you use for paint on the wallpaper?

Yes for sure. Make sure you use a primer for the bathroom to aid in additional moisture control. Allow to dry. You may need more than one coat. Again allow to dry. Your last step is to make sure you use paint specifically for bathroom moisture.Good Luck...

Painting wallpaper is not a good idea. You can get down to the paper and get it off. I've used soap and water, vinegar with heat from a hairdryer.

This is paper that is meant to be painted, not regular wall paper.

Prime with a stain blocking primer like KILZ, BIN, or ZINSSER. Then paint with your color.

If the paint is not coming off, you can prime over it. If it is coming off you may need to wipe down the walls with a damp cloth or sponge and remove as much as you can. Then you can prime.
