How to Make Clay Candy Christmas Ornaments

My daughter and I had a Christmas crafting day in July, and we made up a bunch of chocolate / bonbon Christmas ornaments. They are just too "sweet" not to share. I'll try to be as specific as possible, but you may want to check out my site, as well.
For this project you'll need FIMO soft and FIMO Effect (optional) clay; candy wrappers; tin foil; eye hooks; clay tools (optional); hot glue; craft varnish or sealer (optional); and ribbon; oven and baking tray.
We decided to make rectangle chocolates, so the first thing we did was soften/knead our brown clay and rolled it out. Then we crinkled up some tin foil and shaped it to the size we wanted our candy to be.
Take your brown rolled out clay and lay it over the tin foil; cutting off excess clay and make it nice and smooth. Why are we doing this? If the ornament was solid slay .. it would be quite heavy for a small tree; also, you'll use less clay this way ! My smart daughter came up with that step :D
We couldn't find rectangle candy wrappers / baking cups, so we shaped the circle cups into rectangles. Then, take your tiny eye hook and poke where you want your hanger go. Repeat. Take your batch of chocolates and bake them in the oven per package instructions.
While the chocolates are baking, figure out how you want to decorate them and make your little decorations. For this batch we made icing, holly leaves, candy canes and lollies ... but get creative. I'm sure you can come up with your own designs, as well.
Decorate the baked chocolates and return to the oven per package instructions. By prebaking the chocolates before decorating, we didn't have to worry about fingerprints or squishing them.
Once the candy had cooled, we coated each piece with Liquitex Matte Varnish. Spray varnish would also work ... or you could probably skip this step. Then we hot glued the candy into the wrapper; put a dab of glue on eye hook and pushed it through the wrapper and into predrilled hole.
Hang with ribbon or your choice. These would make great little gifts ... you could assemble a little box of "chocolates" for a favorite teacher, neighbor, etc. FRIENDLY REMINDER: IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN WHO WOULD BE TEMPTED TO PUT THE CANDY ORNAMENT IN THEIR MOUTH, BE SAFE, AND HANG THEM OUT OF THEIR REACH . :D
I invite you to read my post for extra tips on working with clay. Enjoy!
