Best paint for outdoor carpet?

Question

My back deck had no cover,exposed to the elements (till recently w/post later) so my nice outdoor rug that I bought last year is almost completely faded. Still in great shape but I wanted to painted the faded part in. What paint works best?

I found this... http://www.amazon.com/PlastiKote-518-Burgundy-Fabric-Paint/dp/B000CPI0GE but being an aerosol you may need to spray it into a cup first then brush in the details.

KMS, wouldn't it be hard to use a spray paint? I would think it would be hard to control where the spray goes. If you could find a brush on paint, it would be much easier.

My local guy who makes awnings will sell the same canvas they use for the canvas designed to survive the elements. He advised me to use standard acrylic paint with tons of poly. Another option is patio paint. That can survive outside without losing its color on multiple surfaces -- smooth concrete and soft terra cotta. I'm a true believe in poly. Standard canvas needs gesso on both sides to seal the canvas and prepare it for paint.
It's an idea and will be interested in what other readers suggest.

Outdoor acrylic, available in small jars at any crafts store such as Michael's or JoAnn. I've used it with great success, including on vinyl floors, for years. However, if your rug is polypropylene (has a slick, sort of oily feel) as are many outdoor rugs, any kind of paint may flake.

Yes, I would think the craft paint would work the best. I painted one once using craft paint {but it was not in the sun} on the back of a piece of linoleum. It lasted till I got rid of it......just got tired of it. I also put poly on it. I would think spraying in a cup would be a big hassle! I didn't see any comment about spraying it into a cup when I posted my first response.

how about fabric paint...it won't be stiff like other paints!

You could also try a fabric DYE- Rit comes in liquid form. i suppose it can be brushed on too.
