Woodlands Cake Toppers

Hello friends! My beautiful little boy's birthday is in October, so this gives me pretty much free reign to give him some super cute Fall inspired birthday pasties. I decided to give him the cutest Woodlands Birthday Party
Woodlands birthday party anyone ever did see... Haha. Jokes, maybe not the best but it was pretty darn adorable!
I love to make my children's cakes, if time permits I get in there and create because that's just what I love to do. So for his Woodlands cake I decided I wanted to make a little forest scene with cute little forest animals. Now guys, please do not judge my very average animals, after all I am no professional cake maker, but i tried ;) The feature and "wow factor" for this cake was the little forest trees I created using simple and basic craft supplies but I tell you, they gave that wow factor to such a simple cake.
Here's what you'll need to make my little tree cake toppers:

Xacto Knife

Crafters cutting board

Thick card stock- I chose scrap booking paper and you can find lots of different colours, patterns and designs!

Barbecue skewers – you can use thin sticks from your backyard but I chose not to do this for sanitary reasons as the cake was to be eaten

Hot Glue

Craft Glue

Paint Brush

Green moss powder- not sure of another name for it.
The steps for this craft are very simple.

1. Draw your trees on the paper you have chosen. It doesn't have to be perfect and you do not have to be good at drawing.

2. Cut out with your Xacto Knife

3. Fold all trees down the middle, gently, do not over fold.

4. Hot glue the skewers down the centre of the trees.

5. For the trees you want with moss, brush craft glue on these trees and sprinkle moss over them until completely cover, then repeat steps 3 and 4.

6. Once all your trees are made and the glue is dry; cut the base of the skewers to your designed length. Enough length to put them securely in the cake.

Done! It's as easy as that!
Now you can decorate any cake with these adorable little trees. You don't have to have a woodlands them. Use them on any cake when you need some quick trees on the scene! If you love all things moss, then you may like this Moss Covered Number I made using real moss that STILL lives 12 months on!

If you've read this far then I will do a little bragging. My son's Woodlands Birthday Party was published in a Parenting Magazine a few months back. It was such an honour to see my little creation in print!
