Halloween DIY: Rusted Glass Candles

Debbie Hayes of My Patch of Blue Sky had a Halloween DIY idea – a crazy cool mad laboratory project that requires the alchemic knowledge of turning glass into rust! Ready for the spooker-ific tutorial that will leave your frightful guests spellbound? Read on!
To start this project, you'll need the following supplies:
-Glass or Wine Bottles from Dollar Stores or Craft Stores
-Candles
-Metal Effects Rust Kit (Available via your local retailer & HomeDepot.com)
-Pewter Metallic Paint
-Arabesque Ornament Craft Stencil Set from Royal Design Studio
-Small Stencil Brush
-Painters Tape, Paper Towels and Gloves
First, wipe your glass bottles so that they are nice and clean. Next, prime the glass bottles with a primer suitable for glass which can be found at a local craft store, paint store or hardware store. Once dry, brush on two coats of the Metal Effects primer. Allow to dry 12 hours.
Brush on two coats of the Iron Reactive Paint, allowing 30 minutes to dry in between coats. Let dry.
Spray the Rust Activator on the piece. You may prefer to wear gloves for this step. After 5 minutes, spray a second coat of the Rust Activator and let the rust magic begin!
Once rusted, tape the stencil lightly to the surface or hold with one hand. Using the small stencil brush, apply the Pewter Metallic Paint. Dip the tips of the stencil brush into the paint and offload any excess paint onto the paper towels to avoid bleed through underneath the stencil. A little goes a long way. Use a swirling motion to stencil.
Lastly, affix a candle to the top and light it for a while to allow creepy cool drips to occur. You may have to carefully shave the bottom of the candles to fit them to your bottles. Once done - Voilá!
