Dollar Store "Boo" Snake Wreaths -- Just in Time for Halloween
I love Halloween, but I'm just not willing to spend a lot of money on decorations that will only be out for a couple of weeks. Fortunately the Dollar Store and Dollar Tree have really cute Halloween decorations! Using their supplies, I'll show you how to make snake grapevine wreaths.
Years ago I purchased a portrait of the Greek Goddess Medusa at a garage sale for 50 cents. I hang her on our front door every Halloween night.
She is a favorite with the trick or treaters because if you catch her in just the right light, she does this:
She made me want to make a snake wreath, and she was the inspiration for this project. At our local Dollar Tree I purchased a couple of grapevine wreaths.
I also purchased a couple bags of their Creepy Creatures (centipedes, snakes and scorpions), which are supposed to glow in the dark! :D
Because I want the snakes to stand out, the first thing I did was spray paint the grapevine wreaths matte black. Once they were dry, I hot glued the snakes onto the wreaths. FYI: The snakes are actually hollow, and I found it easier to put a little hot glue in a hollow area of the snake and "wrap" and "press" that section around a single strand of the wreath.
The wreaths turned out super cute, but they looked too small for our double front doors. I really wanted to decorate with them, and fortunately I came up with the "Boo" idea. I purchased a paper mache "B" at Joann's craft store for $2; spray painted it black; and hot glued some of the centipedes to it. Super Simple!
Using Dollar Tree "Boo" ribbon, I hung the B and the two snake wreaths from an old bunk bed ladder. Below is a picture of our foyer, all decked out for Halloween.
Besides the grapevine wreaths and creepy crawlies, the black cheese cloth, the Halloween ribbon, and the black rats also came from the Dollar Tree store. I also scattered the remaining centipedes on the drum table.
The candles and candle sticks were all garage sale purchases. So you see, you don't have to spend a lot of money to decorate for Halloween !
