How to Dress Up a Tree Stump - Update

Well, the tree surgeons rang us on Thursday last week and asked if they could bring the date forward to cut the tree down - this was the big gum tree that had been stripped of all branches and only the trunk and fork were left. The plan was to take the fork and trunk down a month or so later to stagger the cost of removal. Anyhooo... They came on Friday and it took them all day to get this tree down and the timber carved up small enough for firewood and taken away. Three truckloads of it. Some pieces also went to a neighbour who has a wood burning heater, and a friends son is meant to be coming to pick up the remains of the timber - some 50 odd large chunks that he will use for firewood. We don't have a wood burning heater ourselves, otherwise we would have kept it. They told us this was probably the biggest gum tree they have removed so far this year. Given that it is now October and we are located in a gum forest area that is really saying something!
Well here is the stump for now.... it is as tall as my waist (but then I am only 5' in my stockinged feet!).

I'd carve the middle with a chain saw and plant phlox or something like that in it. It will also help it to decompose faster.
