Need advice, how to repair chipped off Porcelain in bthrm sink.

I need to know how I can repair this sink myself, I live in rental, owner won't repair it properly, he tried once made a mess!Rust showing through, makes it hard to clean. I'm embarrassed to let people use this sink! Looks like I didn't clean it and looks like toothpaste left...where owner 'tried' to fix! Can this be fixed w/a kit? Can it be done low cost? See photo. This is photo of bathroom sink where pieces have chipped off and a spot where owner did lousy fix it job, it's peeling off. Rust showing through. Please help. TY

use decals make it look like a painted fancy sink cover the are then go up around the faucet with some and some around the front of the sink looks beautiful when you are done I did it in a rental

Many of the home improvement stores sell sink repair kits. I am not a big fan but they will work for a year or two usually. Make sure you do as much prep work as you can before painting on the repair paint. Option two purchase a new sink for $30-$50 and either you install or have your landlord install it. it just needs to be the same sink as you already have. Option three ask your land lord if he will deduct the price of the sink and a plumber from the rent if you take care of the problem. Technically he is responsible for this, if you were to filed a complaint with the city they would make him repair it but offering to take care of it yourself on his dime might inspire him to do the job. PS I don't think your is chipping. It looks like a previous repair kit is beginning to peel off and what you are seeing is the original sink color underneath.

Trying to fix a cheap sink like this is often not worth the headaches. You can get a brand new sink for 30 bucks or so. http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?partNumber=255881-74269-255881&langId=-1&storeId=10151&productId=3319586&catalogId=10051&cmRelshp=req&rel=nofollow&cId=PDIO1 If you "upgrade slightly" you can find a vitreous china version for about 40 bucks. The trick is to find one that is the same shape or slightly larger...with a larger version you can make the existing hole in the cabinet top bigger to fit perfectly. The china sink will not rust.

I have a beautiful very expensive Mirabelle sink I spent 700 dollars on. Its in the garage. It has a chip in it and I cannot find the bisque filler for the chip. I know home depot sells the repair kits but not in my color.

I bought the repair kit. The instructions were perfect. I wasn't. The tub has additional chips now that need to be repaired (we had four teens using that bath) and I'd rather not try again. The epoxy is fantastic. Where I repaired it, it stayed fixed. The color matched perfectly (except where I dripped it on the floor.) Looking at the photo of your sink, I'd go with KMS who suggested considering a new sink. Best wishes.

Have you tried posting a " in search of" on your local Craigslist and Facebook pages? If the sink is original to the home, someone must be updating their bathroom and might have the same one. Food for thought.

I don't think she'd be asking for help if she had the funds to spare to get a new sink or pay to have one installed. Sure you can get a new or free one, but the cost to have a plumber install it will easily cost you plenty. I, too, am in a rental with chipped sinks. I read this post eagerly hoping I would find an answer on how I might do the repair myself. I'm hoping someone will give us both an answer. I'm a 73 y/o widow with zero skills in this area and about the same extra cash.

As a landlord, I would be embarrassed if I knew that one of my tenants had something that was in that condition. We allow our tenants to make minor repairs and give us the receipts and they can either deduct it from their rent or we reimburse them. If you cannot find a suitable replacement, I would seriously consider one of the ReStore products that can be found at Lowes or Home Depot but first I would ask the landlord if he/she is willing to reimburse you to do the repairs if he/she is unwilling or unable to do so. It frustrates me to no end when I see posts here about landlords who won't fix something and worse yet won't let the tenants make repairs if they are capable. Please reply back with an update to your repairs as I see that this post is over a year old. Thanks!

Be careful if chipped sinks. I found chips on the counter next to my ink onc and found they had just popped off the sink. If my face had been down over the sink, those chips could have popped up in my eye doing one painful damage!
