Is this the valve that supplies water to the toilet or the fill valve inside the toilet tank?! Do plan to replace it yourself or hire someone to do it?! Plumbers tend to charge by the hour, rather than a fixed price. A photo would help.

Need to replace the silver turn knob part. What is the cost estimate that a plumber might charge?

If its the valve that supplies water to the toilet you might want to get a plumber. If it's the refill valve, $5-10 for the kit and it's definitely a diy. Go to an Ace Hardware or Lowes and they'll talk you through it. Lowes can also provide you with a plumber for the more difficult jobs.

A plumber is going to charge a minimum of $75.00. You can do it, if you know how to turn the water off to your house. Cost would be about $10 - $15 for the valve.

I see you live in Houston, a service call could run you more, but I still think you are in a $75.00 job minimum

Jerri allen is about right. A plumber would charge around $75. If you know how to shut off your water main, you can do it yourself.
