Any ideas on how to clean up fur on an old Nutcracker

I have been collecting Christmas nutcrackers for many years and the fur (real from a rabbit or synthetic) is now looking yellow from dust and cigarette smoke. I would like to bring them back to the original color without changing the look of the original fur.

Try a little baking soda and water dabbing it on the fur and leave on long enough.

Leaving it on long enough to lift the stains. And yes dab it with paper towel to dry.

I would first take a paint brush with soft bristles and dust the nutcracker, especially the fir and remove as much of the dust as possible. If you have a canister vacuum you can open the slide vent on the tube and vacuum the beard. Then I would use a little shampoo on the fur, I'm talking about a smidgen, and then rinse with a wet cloth that is white. Get all the soap out or the residue will attract dirt again. Use a blow dryer on low and dry the fur.

Try an old soft toothbrush with some cleaner that will remove grease. Smoke residue is usually greasy. You could use another dry toothbrush to brush the fur, too. (Put a bandaid around the handle of the toothbrush so no one uses it to brush their teeth and keep it with your cleaning stuff!)

I had a rabbit fur coat that was yellow like that and I put it in the tub and washed it with Dawn-the yellow came out then I dried it well with a towel, blow dried it on low and it came out beautiful, probably the same thing will work with your nutcracker
