Christmas Gift: DIY Coasters

Homemade gifts are the best! I love being able to pair a homemade gift with a store-bought gift to make it extra special. These DIY coasters are an upcycled project that are perfect with a photo coffee mug or other mug gift.
To make these coasters, we used scrap wood, yard sticks and construction adhesive.
We cut the scrap piece of wood down to size and then cut the yard sticks to fit the top of the piece of wood.
Next, we used construction adhesive to attach the yard sticks to the top of the wood. We also cut yard sticks to fit the sides of the coasters to finish them off.
Add these coasters to a gift basket with the recipients favorite things and a fun coffee mug and you have a great homemade and special Christmas gift!

Would coating them with some kind of sealant be a good idea? Or would this just get rid of the "absorbent" factor that you want in a coaster?
