I found this beauty on one of my local buy, sell and trade sites on Facebook. It was in desperate need of a makeover to bring it modern.
I started by giving it a good cleaning with a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar. After letting it dry good, I applied the base coats of cream and grey.
Once I had my base coats on, I decided this was the perfect piece for stripes. I taped off the stripes using painters tape.
After I applied the tape, I covered it with the base coat to burnish the edges so it didn't bleed.
Once it was dry, I painted my stripe color.
I let it dry to almost dry and then I removed the tape to begin to reveal the stripes.
When all of the tape was peeled, I had my stripes.
I used some fine grit sandpaper to age the piece. Once that was done, I used an aging powder to give it a little bit of depth.
This is a product that gives a dirty effect in the detail of a piece of furniture and it adheres with a little bit of wax. Once I applied the aging powder, I gave it a couple of coats of polycrylic for durability and some new hardware. I had exactly the look I wanted!
