I’m always on the lookout for creative ideas for my customers. While cleaning my craft area, I ran into a hard back canvas and a light bulb went off over my head. How fast and easy it would be to make wall art using a stencil. So here’s what I did.
First, I rolled on two coats of grey acrylic paint to cover the canvas.
I mixed white and purple acrylic together to get a lighter tone and while the grey was still wet, added some dimension to the corners of the canvas using a soft fan brush and blending.
I wanted to stagger the stencil design on the canvas. I used my stencil design: Gloria (http://simplyspring.com/products/raised-plaster-stencil-gloria ) I lightly sprayed the stencil with stencil adhesive and placed only a portion of it on the canvas.
It’s very important to off load the paint onto a napkin or paper towel. Too much paint on the brush will cause excessive paint bleeding under the stencil.
Heres after I stenciled the design in staggered positions.
I mixed approximately ¼ cup of joint compound with 1 tablespoon of white glue to give it some tooth to stick to the canvas.
Then I added some of the purple acrylic paint in, to give it a nice pinkish shade.
Using the same stencil, I got my handy dandy putty knife out and started applying the joint compound mixture over the stencil openings.
Once the openings were covered, I immediately removed the stencil. Voila! A fast and easy wall art project that even the least crafty person can do.
Great idea for gifts or even selling your piece of art! Hope you enjoyed my latest project!
