it depends on the ambiance you want to give your room. In general a darker color is best as it enhances the viewing experience and doesn't compete with the TV. You know cocooning.

Paint colors should be closed based on lighting, furniture and accessories. That is really personal preference.

I personally would go for 2 colours one a lighter grey and the other a darker grey- maybe a charcoal colour.. the lighter Grey on the back and front facing walls and the dark on the two side walls it adds a depth look to rooms

One thing would be imagining a room that is used for watching TV only. Another is what most people refer to as "den" - a room that serves multiple purposes. Anyone who is nostalgic about movie theaters can certainly fashion a room to look like a movie theater and make the TV and lounging area the focal point of a room. But when the space has to serve various purposes, lighter or warmer paint colors are better. Still, this mostly depends on the size of a room, the amount and style/color of furniture it accommodates, the amount of natural light it receives at daytime, and the lighting you use in the evening...many factors to consider.

My tv room is a light blue with a dark green accent wall. I really like the look of the accent wall. It also depends on lighting in your room.

Family owned a painting business and this is a question on the size of the room you will be renovating for this project, lighting and furnishings?

our company renovated a customer's TV room several years ago.

this room was large with medium brown lamanite flooring. Had 4 nice size windows, a triple layered tray ceiling with beautiful crown molding at the top, middle and base of each wall.

the colors our company's color choice was to paint all molding a gloss white, paint the top half of the wall a medium slate blue grey and the bottom half in a charcoal color. Both in flat finishes, now the gloss white makes the flat finish stand out and pop. The ceiling was painted in flat finishes as well. The tray center was a very extremely pale light sky blue ( very little color) with the next layer in an off white ending in plain white. This room was stunning once completed and the customers were like oh WOW, it's gorgeous. From what was heard later they received a lot of compliments on the room and color choices the company had made and it was their favorite room in their home.

so don't be afraid of those odd colors when choosing your wall colors....thinking outside the comfort zone can provide stunning results.
